It has happened. What happens next?
If you report a crime, you are always supposed to have some legal assistance. Having a lawyer on your side you may act as a joint plaintiff and may press charges. Thus you have more rights during the proceedings, e.g. file inspection, presence during the whole proceedings, rejecting inappropriate questions and lodging an appeal. A lot of victim support organisations have contacts to special lawyers or could recommend legal assistance. You have to pay for the lawyer yourself if the accused will be acquitted or if the perpetrator is not able to pay the costs. But there is the chance of requesting legal aid at the local court even supported by a lawyer.
